Farm Stock Special Washed Out

ABC Raceway’s ‘Farm Stock Special’ Washed Out

by Nick Gima

Ashland, WI, June 29 – For the second time in six days, badly-needed precipitation – and lots of it – showed up just in time to force the cancellation of a race program at the ABC Raceway. This time, it was Thursday’s second annual “Farm Stock Special,” to have been presented by White River Ag Products of Mason.

Two ominous storm fronts moved over northern Wisconsin’s Chequamegon Bay area between 6 and 9 pm, dropping over two inches of rain on the award-winning speedplant in that brief time frame. The event, which pays tribute to area farmers, was to offer huge purses for the WISSOTA-sanctioned Outlaw Wraps & Apparel Modifieds, Harmony Wealth Management Midwest Mods, and Superior Floral Super Stocks in attendance. The Patsy’s Bar & Grill WISSOTA Pure Stocks and Lightning Storm Graphics ABC Raceway Six-Cylinders were also slated to be in action.

Over 115 racers had been registered for the program prior to the cancellation, with many more waiting to see if the bad weather would pass.

The Raceway will sit idle until Saturday, July 8, when it will host its Military Appreciation Night and kids’ bike races, to be presented by Chicago Iron & Supplies of Ashland. Free general grandstand admission will be offered to all active and retired members of the Armed Forces showing their military IDs, and the youngsters will get to race their bikes on the same red-clay oval that their heroes race on.

The grandstand gates and pits will open at 5 pm on July 8, with hot laps starting at 6:30 and the first green flag of the night set to fly at 7 pm.

The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland, then just one mile west of State Highway 13 on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com, or check out the Raceway’s FaceBook page.
