Ashland, WI — The ABC Raceway has another full night of racing fun set for this Saturday night.
The WISSOTA PolyDome Dirt Track Series program will include the rescheduled Six-Cylinder “Summer Sizzler,” to be presented by Lake Shore Cafe of Ashland, as well as the qualifying features for the Afco Shocks “Race of Champions” for the track’s four WISSOTA-sanctioned divisions, to be presented by the Safari Tavern of Ashland.
In addition to all of that, members of the Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers (NVSR) club will be in town on their annual visit to show off and compete with their classic racing equipment.
The tenth annual “Sizzler” was slated for June 25, but a severe thunderstorm wiped out that show before it could get started. Defending Sixes track champion Dale Coddington of Hayward will look to become only the third two-time winner of the event. But Ashland’s Tiffany Hudack, who currently leads the division’s points standings and has won three straight features and four of the five run so far this season, hopes to get her hands on the $650 first-place check.
The winners of the other four features – for the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods and Pure Stocks – will receive invitations to represent the Raceway in this year’s Afco Race of Champions, as part of the big WISSOTA 100 race weekend on September 14-17 at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD.
The NVSR is based in east-central Minnesota and has made annual trips to the northern Wisconsin red-clay oval for many years. The club brings a variety of restored racers from the bygone eras of the sport, and the car owners enjoy showing off the machines – which many will do in the parking lot at the track prior to Saturday’s races – as they do competing with them on tracks throughout the Midwest.
The Raceway’s live pre-race radio program, “Z-93 Race Night,” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information. Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, followed by the first green flag of the night at 7. Adult tickets are just $11 each, and kids ages 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult admission.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on anytime to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
