ABC Raceway to Offer Friday Night Action

by Nick Gima
Ashland, WI, June 26 – A rather unusual part of the ABC Raceway’s 2019 schedule starts on this Friday – not Saturday – night.
The Bad River Lodge, Casino & Convention Center of Odanah will present the Raceway’s Afco Shocks Race of Champions qualifier features for the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds. The winners of Friday’s features in each of these divisions will receive invitations to compete in each division’s Afco Shocks Race of Champions features to be held as part of this year’s WISSOTA 100 weekend on September 12 & 13 at the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN.
Each WISSOTA-sanctioned track schedules a Race of Champions qualifier night with the hopes that its representatives can bring home the prestigious win.
The quirk in the schedule is that the Ashland track – which has traditionally hosted its weekly racing programs on Saturday nights for at least the last 40 of its 55 summers of operation – does not have a race show scheduled for either of the next two Saturdays. After Friday’s program, the track’s all-volunteer staff will prepare the facility for its first-ever visit by the Morton Buildings World of Outlaws Late Model Series national event, the “Red’s Auto Badgerland 50 Outlaw Challenge” presented by Red’s Auto of Ironwood, MI, on Tuesday, July 9.
The WISSOTA Pure Stocks and Hornets and the ABC Six-Cylinders will join the other divisions in action on Friday. Feature winners from this past Saturday’s program included Kevin Eder of Ashland in the Modifieds; Ironwood’s Don Muzzy in the Super Stocks; George Dalbeck of Wakefield, MI, in the Mid-Mods for the third time here this season; Bubba Anderson of Trego in the Sixes; Justin Weinberger of Park Falls for the second time this summer in the Pure Stocks; and Tate Niehaus of Alborn, MN, who won his first-ever Hornet feature.
Friday’s program will start with hot laps at 6:15, while the heat races will “go green” at 7 pm.
“Race Night” will air on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, with up-to-date track news and weather updates every 15-20 minutes from 4:30-6 pm; coverage will also stream on www.wbszfm.com and on the free Heartland Communications Group radio app.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
