Cold Weather Delays ABC Opener One Week
by Nick Gima Ashland, WI, May 16 -- The cool temperatures and wet conditions that have plagued the Chequamegon Bay area in recent days was enough to force cancellation of the ABC Raceway’s scheduled AmsOil Late Model Series season-opening program Saturday night.
Track conditions were as ideal as ever for this early in the season, said Raceway president Kurt Beeksma, but bitter-cold northeasterly winds and the slight threat of evening rain would have made attracting a crowd for the 45th season opener, presented by Northern State Bank, too much of a challenge.
The 2009 season is now slated to commence on Saturday, May 23, with Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce Night. All six weekly divisions will be in action. The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. “Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
