July Will be Busy for Racers, Fans at ABC
by Nick Gima
Ashland, WI, July 8 — When the calendar turns to July, the action traditionally heats up at the ABC Raceway. And this July will be no exception.
A very busy, very exciting month awaits racers and fans at the three-eighths-mile northern Wisconsin oval, starting this Saturday night with the popular kids’ bike races, to be presented by Chicago Iron & Supply of Ashland.
Young race fans will get the chance to race on the red-clay track in several different age groups, with prizes and fun guaranteed. The event has been a staple on the ABC Raceway schedule for many years and has been a favorite night for fans of all ages.
“Getting the youngsters out and letting them ride their bikes on the same track where their heroes race – that’s a great way to get kids interested in the sport of racing,” stated Raceway president Eric Erickson recently. “Many of the drivers racing stock cars on out our track got their starts racing their bikes here not that many years ago.”
The month will continue with three more very special race nights at the award-winning track. On July 15 the WISSOTA Pure Stocks will take center stage for their “Pure Excitement 25” special, with a purse that will increase throughout the night thanks to contributions from businesses and fans. The format has drawn many drivers from around the region looking to capitalize on the extra money being offered.
On July 22 the FastLane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series will make its middle stop of the weekend here. In its third season, the Series has become hugely popular among WISSOTA Super Stock racers and their fans, and this year’s version is expected to draw entries from Michigan, Minnesota, the Dakotas, and perhaps even Canada, as well as from all over Wisconsin.
The Series is slated to kick off at AmsOil Speedway in Superior on the Friday night before and conclude at Proctor (MN) Speedway on the Sunday following the stop in Ashland.
July 29 will be an especially memorable night at ABC, as the track will introduce its fourth class of inductees into its Hall of Fame. On that same night fans will be asked to help the Raceway raise money for a worthy cause during its rescheduled “Race to a Cure” cancer awareness program.
During each night in July, all five regular weekly divisions will be in action – WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods and Pure Stocks, along with its own ABC Six-Cylinders. Hot laps will start each Saturday night at 6:15 pm, followed by heat races at approximately 7 pm.
Adult grandstand admission tickets are priced at just $11 each for this Saturday’s program, and younger fans accompanied by a paying adult will be admitted free. “Z-93 Race Night” will air on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and stream live on www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990
