Fans, Racers Hoping for Better Weather at ABC Saturday
by Nick Gima
Ashland, WI — After back-to-back washouts, the staff of ABC Raceway hopes to get their race program in on Saturday
night, when WITC-Ashland Campus joins Northern Clearing to host the show.
Both Northern Clearing and WITC-Ashland Campus have been season-long sponsors of the Raceway for a number of summers. WITC’s date on the original 2012 schedule – May 26 – was rained out, but Raceway officials moved quickly to fulfill their commitment to WITC by adding them to this weekend’s docket.
Four of the track’s five regular weekly race divisions will be on hand Saturday. Tops in the current WISSOTA modified division standings is Jeff Spacek of Phillips, while Ashland’s Travis Nye leads the WISSOTA Midwest modified points. Pat Beeksma of Ironwood heads up the
six-cylinders coming into Saturday’s action, and the team of Paul Tutor and Jim Eliason of Ashland currently pace the pure stock standings.
The WISSOTA super stocks, led in points by Superior’s Scott Lawrence, will have this Saturday night off here.
The grandstand and pit gates will open at 5 pm on Saturday, with hot laps starting at 6:15 and the first race of the evening set for around 7 pm. Admission tickets for adults (ages 13 & older) are just $10, while fans ages 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Prior to Saturday’s race program, “Race Night” will provide up-to-date track news and weather information live on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
