Ashland, WI, April 26 — With the start of the Northland’s stock car racing season just around the corner, the ABC Raceway is inviting racers and fans from around the area to get ready by attending its car show and swap meet at FastLane Motorsports & Powdercoating on Saturday, April 29.
The annual event officially marks the beginning of the 2017 racing season for the award-winning three-eighths-mile red-clay oval located just south of Ashland. The Raceway, under the direction of the all-volunteer Ashland-Bayfield County Racing Association for the 53rd consecutive season, will again be hosting WISSOTA Promoters Association-sanctioned race programs every weekend from mid-May through the end of August, along with its signature Red Clay Classic season-ending invitational in late September.
“We are only a couple of weekends away from starting our season,” said Raceway Board president Eric Erickson recently. “The car show is a great way for fans to get fired up about the season, and FastLane has always been very generous when it comes to offering to host this event.”
Fans will get a chance to enjoy an up-close look at many of the racing machines that will be in action at the Raceway this season, and several of the drivers of those race cars will be on hand to visit with the fans. In addition, the Raceway and FastLane staffs invite area car enthusiasts to bring their street rods, muscle cars and collector cars and trucks to display alongside the race cars in the north parking area in front of FastLane’s office.
Members of the ABC Raceway staff will be on hand to talk about the upcoming season’s schedule, which is jam-packed with special events and popular shows. Included on this year’s slate are visits by the Interstate Racing Association’s 410 “outlaw” winged sprints, the WISSOTA Shaw Trucking Late Model Challenge Series, the Advantage RV Modified Tour, and the FastLane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series.
The regular season kicks off on May 13 and concludes on August 26, and the schedule includes racing every Saturday night except on July 1. However, on Friday, June 30, the track will offer a free-admission night to all fans in the grandstands as part of its annual American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” fundraiser.
Chris Bretting and his staff at FastLane will also be available to answer questions regarding the many services that his business offers, such as fabricating, sandblasting and applying protective powder-coating materials for residential, industrial and commercial uses.
The car show and swap meet will be held from 10 am until 2 pm on Saturday. A special edition of “Z-93 Race Night” will air from 10 am until noon live from FastLane’s shop on WBSZ, 93.3 FM.
FastLane Motorsports & Custom Powdercoating is located in Ashland’s East End, on the corner of US Highway 2 and Industrial Park Road. The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
